Fano has once more won the Bandiera Blu (Blue Flag mark) for the quality of its water and services. The city has two main sea fronts: Sassonia and Lido. The first is a smooth pebble beach, while the second is sandy. The Hotel is in the Sassonia area, right in front of the Bagni Peppe bathing establishment. The city also has a free beach (very close by the Hotel) and a beach for pets.
The Fano Carnival is among the oldest in Italy, going back to 1872. The riders on the floats throw handfuls of sweets at the public as they pass, accompanied by the traditional Musica Arabita (Angry Music). The Fano Carnival: "Beautiful to see, sweet to the taste!".
The town's seagoing traditions are celebrated every year during the Fano Sea Festival. After a wreath of flowers is placed on the waves to commemorate those who have lost their lives at sea, the celebrations begin, with wine and food stalls and a closing fireworks display over the water.
A more recent event, held during the evening, is the launch of flying lanterns over the sea. Hundreds of lanterns are lit on the beach and released all together - a truly breathtaking sight.
Every year, international artists, like Noa, perform in the beautiful setting of Fano. 2017 will be the 25th Anniversary edition of "Fano Jazz by the sea".
Tens of stands are set up along Fano's Lido seafront where visitors can taste the famous local fish chowder, "brodetto alla fanese", made with a variety of fish from squid to gurnard and served with crusts of bread.
A mix of flavours, art and food. A relaxed tasting of local delicacies, offered during the autumn season. More than 100 producers take part, offering sheep's cheese, truffles, wine, cured meat, oil and many other local specialities.
